Meet Sofía De Jesús: the educational professional with over 20 years in education. This Puerto Rican powerhouse isn’t just your average teacher-turned-tech-guru; she’s on a mission to make computer science more accessible than a cat video on the internet.
Sofía is the Associate Program Manager for CMU CS Academy at Carnegie Mellon, where she is leading the Spanish translation of the curriculum and working in all things equity and accessibility with partners in the United States and globally.
Sofía is a polyglot, with fluency in Spanish and English, intermediate fluency in Brazilian Portuguese, and conversational knowledge of Italian and French. She is a published author, diversity champion, and self-proclaimed math puzzle enthusiast.
Sofía De Jesús is the author of the book “Applied Computational Thinking with Python,” which published it’s 2nd edition in December of 2023. The book gives a glimpse into the problem-solving process for computational problems and features machine learning and artificial intelligence topics, which her co-author Dayrene Martinez helped come to life.
The first edition of the book was published in 2020, which had its own unique challenges in a year of challenges for the entire world. She was teaching full time virtually while also writing the book as everything was shut down. The goal of the book is to demonstrate various techniques for solving multi-faceted problems and different approaches to them.
